For Real Sociedad, today’s visit from Rayo Vallecano presents the perfect opportunity to usurp Villarreal for the fifth and final automatic European qualifying spot in the Spanish Liga BBVA table. The White and Blues are currently sixth with 43 points, trailing Villarreal by just one (44).
Standing in their way is a club desperate to climb higher in a race of its own. Rayo Vallecano enter today’s match with a feeble 23 points and three points shy of clearing the relegation zone. A victory on the road against Sociedad will go a long way in aiding their chances of playing first-division football next season.
