Darren Sharper rape case update: NFL vet facing mounting charges, prosecutors fight to keep him jailed [VIDEO]

Prosecutors in all five states where former NFL star Darren Sharper is accused of having drugged and raped women are quickly lining up their cases in hopes of being the first jurisdiction to gain a conviction against him.

The 38-year Sharper remains jailed without bail in Los Angeles on a fugitive warrant in New Orleans charging he sexually attacked two women at his home over the last several months. Sharper also faces charges or is under investigation in L.A., Miami, Nevada and Arizona.

According to TMZ, attorneys for Sharper sought to have him released on bail on Friday, all the while assuring the judge that he would travel to New Orleans to be arraigned on the two rape counts.

At the time of his most recent arrest, Sharper was already free on $1 million bail in L.A. on two unrelated rape charges, where it is also alleged he drugged his victims with the sleep-inducing drug Ambien before attacking them.

Sharper has pleaded not guilty to the L.A. charges and lawyers for him insist any sex he had with any of the women was consensual. In the New Orleans case alone, Sharper faces lifetime imprisonment if he is convicted.

Sharper played 14 NFL seasons, including on the Saints 2010 Super Bowl winning team. Since retiring he had worked as an analyst for the NFL network before management announced earlier this week he had been terminated.
