The Phillies are on the verge of trading Chase Utley, per baseball reporter Ken Rosenthal. Jon Heyman revealed a potential destination on Wednesday, adding that the Los Angeles Dodgers are moving closer to a deal that will include cash and two minor leaguers, though nothing has been finalized.

The news comes as a shock considering Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.—not 24 hours ago—told the 94WIP Morning Show that Utley had no chance of leaving the team, per CBS Philly.

"As I told you before, it is very likely he'll be here in Philadelphia through the end of the year and then we'll see what happens after that," Amaro said.
Utley's situation in Philadelphia reportedly came to a head following the team's acquisition of Tyler Pastornicky from the Rangers for cash considerations. Amaro, however, vehemently denied the acquisition will play any part in Utley's future.

"Not really," he said. "Tyler Pastornicky was brought in frankly just to fill in a role at Triple-A. As far as Chase is concerned, again this is a guy who's got a 10-5 [no trade clause]. He, in essence, controls his own fate.

"Frankly, he's playing very well for us and helping us win baseball games and it's very possible he's gonna end up finishing off the season with us."
For Utley, the decision is simple: finish the season in last place in the NL East, or join the Dodgers' pennant race in the NL West.
