Lolo Jones' lost out on her dream to earn an Olympic medal in Sochi.

So she apparently returned to America and took away the dream of the college student who thought he had earned secured a Twitter date with the Olympian.

Bubby Lyles, a senior journalism student at Georgia State who got Jones last summer to agree to go on a date with him after he secured 150,000 retweets of a message asking her out, took to Twitter again on Tuesday to say the date was off.

From Bubby Lyles (@harrylylesjr): "I am sorry to let you all know that the date with Lolo Jones is not going to happen. Thanks for the support that you all have shown me."

He gave no explanation as to why the date has been canceled, so it's uncertain whether Jones canceled the date. But Lyles also didn't say that he canceled the date, and to assume he broke it off would be a stretch.

Lyles originally caught Jones attention in June, in which he asked her to go out with him if his tweet received 150,000 retweets. According to craveonline.com, Jones direct-messaged Lyles confirming that she would do it if he got the retweets.

Lyles got the 150,000th on the Fourth of July in what appeared to be a dream scenario.

He also told OlympicTalk.NBCSports.com in July that Jones asked for his contact information after her final scheduled track meet of 2013. "I'm looking forward to meeting you, and I'm looking forward to our date," Jones allegedly messaged Lyles.

"I couldn't just tweet her and say 'Let's go out on a date,'" he told OlympicTalk.NBCSports.com. "She wouldn't do that just on the fly. I thought, give her some incentive. What's an outrageous number most people would think would be unreachable? I came up with 150,000, and it went from there."

Jones told NBC she would go on the date with him, in which he responded rather prophetically.

"I was happy to see the proof I guess, because I guess a lot of people put it out that she won't go through with it," he said. "That thought never crossed my mind."
