A bad season for Knicks point guard Raymond Felton has careened into the territory of the disastrous, as he was arrested in Manhattan very early Tuesday morning on felony weapons charges, after pointing a gun at a woman believed to be his girlfriend, according to the New York Post.
Raymond Felton's wife files for divorce after short marriage
Felton is charged with second and third degree criminal possession as well as a misdemeanor fourth-degree possession charge. The Knicks had tried to deal Felton at last week's trade deadline but couldn't find any suitors; now they will probably wind up going the remainder of the season without him.
After helping the Knicks win 54 games and the Atlantic Division crown last season Felton's played like one of the worst starting point guards in the entire league this year. His scoring has dropped from 13.9 points to 10.4 this year, while his 3-point shooting has dipped below 30 percent.
He signed a three-year, $10 million deal to replace Jeremy Lin last year, but that deal no longer looks like a bargain. Monday night in a loss to the Dallas Mavericks Felton scored eight points, and recorded seven assists but attempted just four shots all night.
Felton could be facing serious jail time if he's convicted on these charges, if the Plaxico Burress incident in 2009 is any marker. In 2009 then-Giants superstar Burress accidentally shot his gun off in a nightclub into his own leg, and received two years in prison after accepting a plea deal. He was facing 3.5 years if convicted at trial.
Beyond his arrest and poor play, his wife Ariane Raymondo Felton filed for divorce recently after just 19 months of marriage. Felton turned himself in after his wife turned over a FNH 5.7x28 mm, a Belgian pistol, over to the cops.
