Forward Glen Davis could be headed either to Los Angeles or New York after his contract was bought out by the Orlando Magic as the latter continued its rebuilding program.

On Friday, NBA.com said that Magic general manager Rob Hennigan announced that Davis has been released after his contract was bought out. Davis was averaging around 12 points and 6 rebounds for the Magic in 45 appearances this season, and was making around $6 million this year. Under his contract, he was to receive $6.6 million next season.

Now a free agent, Davis is being courted by contenders like the LA Clippers and Brooklyn Nets. Marc Stein of ESPN.com is reporting that Davis is choosing between playing for his old coach Doc Rivers in Los Angeles, where he could serve as a back-up to star forward Blake Griffin. He may also play for Brooklyn, where his old teammates Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are also playing.

According to Stein, sources close to the Nets will wait for Davis to decide on which team he'd like to play for before deciding on whether to proceed with the signing of another free agent big man, Jason Collins. Sources added that Davis is the top choice of the Nets for their frontcourt, as he can score better than Collins despite his shorter height.

However, Stein said that the Nets could quickly shirt their attention back to Collins if Davis eventually signs with the Clippers. The burly forward has a close relationship with former coach Doc Rivers, who coached the last Boston Celtics championship team in 2008 that included Pierce, Garnett and Davis.
