Rumors surfaced over the weekend that CM Punk was granted his release from the WWE on Friday, and reports indicate that the speculation stemmed from Punk's girlfriend A.J. Lee getting the weekend off from WWE's live events.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, the rumors of Punk being granted his release on Friday started due to Lee getting the weekend off from the WWE's slate of house shows as people were speculating the reasons why Lee left the company for the weekend, which led into the rumors that Punk was granted a release. WWE sources later told The Wrestling Observer that Punk was not granted his release. Lee remains with the company while Punk has not appeared in almost a month.

Punk has not been seen since the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 26 as he walked out just hours before the following night's WWE Monday Night RAW tapings. According to reports, there have been multiple theories on why Punk left that ranger from Punk being burned out and tired of his place on the card and Punk being injured at the Rumble leading to him walking out.

It's likely Punk was fed up with the company since he has been vocally frustrated for years. Punk has reportedly been upset with people like The Rock and Batista coming back after long layoffs and main eventing WrestleMania while other superstars such as himself and Daniel Bryan are sauntered down to the midcard at the biggest show of the year after traveling and competing all year.

Punk was vocally upset when The Rock took on John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXIX last year while he was in a high-profile match with The Undertaker. Though his match was high-profile and received plenty of buildup, Punk has admitted that his dream is to main event a WrestleMania and he has been vocal about being upset that he has never done that yet in his WWE career.

Punk's contract was set to expire in July but with Batista expected to main event this year's show on April 6 against Randy Orton and Punk rumored to take on Triple H, Punk may have realized that he'd never get a chance to main event the biggest show of the year since his deal was about to run out and he wasn't expected to re-sign.

Punk could very well opt to return to the WWE, but many close to him have said that he is "done" with the company. The WWE is still holding out hope as Vince McMahon said he likes Punk and wants him back, as evidenced by the fact that he wouldn't grant him his release.
