NFL Draft 2014 [VIDEO]: Texans WR Andre Johnson says team should trade first pick, 'I would probably trade it'

The Houston Texans have a glaring need at quarterback and are armed with the first overall pick in a 2014 NFL Draft that will be full of quality signal callers to choose from, but the team's longest tenured player believes that they should trade the pick. According to reports, wide receiver Andre Johnson believes that the team should deal its first overall pick.

Johnson said in an interview spot on Wednesday that he didn't believe the team should keep their pick, even though they are looking to land a quarterback and the draft includes passers like Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater.

"I have thought about different scenarios," Johnson told KTRK-TV in Houston on Wednesday, according to NFL.com. "Me personally, if I had it, I would probably trade it, but that's just my opinion."

Johnson said even though his personal belief is that they should trade the pick, it doesn't mean that he believes they should necessarily heed his advice.

"That doesn't make it right," Johnson said via ESPN. "Doesn't mean they should listen to me, because I am not the GM. I have never had to sit in the draft room like that."

While the team that has the No.1 overall pick doesn't often trade it away, it has happened five times since 1990 with the last occurrence being in 2001 when the San Diego Chargers dealt their first round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a first and third-rounder. Atlanta eventually selected quarterback Michael Vick while San Diego went on to draft LaDainian Tomlinson four picks later.

The Texans are expected to draft a quarterback with their first overall pick as they look to upgrade at the position coming off of a year where the team lost 12 straight games to close out the year, notching a franchise record for most consecutive losing games while missing the playoffs for the first time in three seasons.

With the team struggling in 2013 under Matt Schaub and eventually Case Keenum, the Texans will likely draft a better quarterback to throw to Johnson and their other receivers.

Johnson is coming off of a season where he had 109 receptions for 1,407 yards and five touchdowns.

It's likely that Houston will keep the pick and draft a quarterback even if the longest tenured player on the team doesn't believe it's the right move.
