It appears there may be good reasoning behind Richie Incognito's recent Twitter blast of ex-best friend Jonathan Martin.
The NFL world waits for a decision on Ted Wells' investigation into the Miami Dolphins incident involving Martin's allegations that he was bullied by Incognito and others, forcing him to walk out on the team during the middle of the 2013 season.
But reports continue to trickle down that Incognito, not Martin, may ultimately me viewed as the victim of a Martin scam.
TMZ Sports reported Thursday that the infamous April 26, 2013 dinner in which Martin allegedly walked out of a dinner party after Incognito and other teammates harassed him did not happen the way Martin suggested.
TMZ Sports obtained a letter from a New Jersey police chief that was sent to investigators working for Wells stating that Incognito didn't do anything Martin accused him of doing.
One of the complaints against Incognito was the he used the same racial slur against Martin that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver was caught on video saying to a security guard at a concert last summer.
After Martin's allegations, some media members uncovered more examples portraying Incognito in a bad light, which villified him even more.
The police chief's letter indicated he was present at the dinner and said he did not see any incidents of inappropriate behavior toward Martin by Incognito or the other attendees, Anthony Fasano and Will Yeatman.
The chief added that the four players were all watching Vine videos, laughing and smiling.
"At no time did I ever hear Ritchie speak condescendingly to or attempt to intimidate Jonathan or anyone else at this restaurant," the police chief's letter stated.
The chief never witnessed Martin storming out, or even complaining about any mistreatment. He said he spent a lot of time with Martin and Incognito together the past few years.
"They have always appeared to me to have a close and amiable relationship -- very much like best friends," the police chief wrote.
Martin's representative did not return calls from TMZ Sports seeking comment. Representative from Incognito's camp declined comment.
