The Detroit Pistons are expected offer forward Greg Monroe a max deal by the time he officially becomes a free agent this summer.

According to NBA.com, Monroe's powerful agent David Falk has let it be known that his client is seeking a deal somewhere in the neighborhood of the four-year, $58 million deal Falk engineered for fellow client Roy Hibbert two seasons ago with Indiana.

The 24-year-old Monroe is widely viewed around the league as a skilled offensive player who still needs plenty of work on the defensive end. The six feet 10 inch forward is currently averaging 14.3 points and 8.7 rebounds on 52 percent shooting for the Pistons.

In recent weeks, several teams have reached out to Detroit to gauge if Monroe might be available as a trade piece, but were quickly rebuffed by management which remains intrigued by the idea of building its longtime core around a trio of Monroe, Andre Drummond and Brandon Jennings.

Detroit fired coach Maurice Cheeks less than a season into his tenure last week and speculation is whomever the franchise brings in as a long-term replacement will need to have a plan that plays to Monroe's versatile strengths.
