The proposed celebrity boxing match pitting rapper DMX and George Zimmerman has been scratched just a few days after the proposal was met with mixed reactions from the general public.

As NY Daily News is reporting, promoter Damon Feldman explained why he cancelled the match in a series of tweets posted on Saturday afternoon.

"This was the wrong person to put in the ring and define celebrity boxing thank you," he tweeted. "I walked away from av [sic] million dollar payday with this fight but to be honest I'd rather be happy and make people happy thank you."

In a report by TMZ, Feldman said he selected the rapper out of a field of 15,000 willing fighters to trade blows with the infamous killer of Trayvon Martin. Last month, the 30-year old Zimmerman said he has been working out for months and ready for a boxing match.

Feldman said the various reactions of the public had him walking away from the match and apologizing for even thinking of it.

"I wasn't being disrespected [sic] to anyone I had a plan here with this fight I'll let you know soon hope everyone is happy I'm very sorry," he tweeted. "I want to thank everyone for the good n [sic] bad comments I've made the choice to cancel the fight w George Zimmermann [sic] more to life then [sic] money."

According to NY Daily News, the representative of DMX said in a statement that the rapper never formally agreed to the fight.
