Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead: Did 'Capote' Oscar Winner Have Funniest Basketball Scene Ever? 'Let It Rain!' [VIDEO]

Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead from an apparent drug overdose on Sunday. The Academy Award-winning actor was so revered by the showbiz community that Broadway will dim the lights in his honor, but Hoffman also had a sports connection.

In fact, Hoffman's portrayal of Sandy Lyle in Along Came Polly resulted in arguably the funniest basketball scene in movie history. Hoffman won an Academy Award for his role in Capote, but the 2004 film starring Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston will live in infamy among sports fans. Hoffman also played Oakland Athletics manager Art Howe in the 2011 film Moneyball. Check out Sandy Lyle's pickup game skills below.

While Along Came Polly was poorly reviewed by and large, Roger Ebert highlighted Hoffman's performance as a bright spot. " I did like Philip Seymour Hoffman as Sandy, Reuben's best man; he's a former child star, now reduced to having strangers tell him how amazed they are that he's still alive. How he responds to this in one early scene is a small masterpiece of facial melodrama, but how many times does he have to slip and fall on slick floors before we get tired of it? I grant him this: He knows exactly how a fat man looks in a red cummerbund from a tuxedo rental agency."
