Andrew Bynum Knicks Rumors? New York's Late Push Almost Landed New Pacers Center? [VIDEO]

The New York Knicks were hot on the trail of Andrew Bynum before the oft-injured center decided to sign with the Indiana Pacers late last week.

According to the New York Post, the Knicks made a late push for Bynum, whose decision to sign with the Pacers for the remainder of the season ultimately came down to money. The newspaper adds Knicks personnel director Mark Warkentien tried to arrange a meeting with Bynum over the weekend, but it never quite materialized.

"The Knicks were very aggressive in the end," Bynum's agent David Lee admitted to The Post. "In the end, they did everything they could."

In the end, the salary-cap strapped Knicks could only offer Bynum the veteran's minimum, which pro-rated would have been roughly $550,000. Indiana used part of its mid-level exception to land Bynum, meaning the team can pay him up to $1 million for the rest of the season.

The seven-foot Bynum previously spent seven seasons in L.A., where he won a title playing alongside Kobe Bryant. He was dealt by the team to Philadelphia in 2012, but missed all of last season with a knee injury.

After signing with the Cavs in summer free agency, Bynum lasted less than a season in Cleveland and was dealt to Chicago as part of the Luol Deng trade.
