After winning a thriller at the Carrier Dome against the Duke Blue Devils, the Syracuse Orange (21-0, 8-0 ACC) remained undefeated on the season and took advantage of the Arizona Wildcats' first loss of the season to move into the No. 1 ranking in the nation. Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET they'll face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-10, 3-6 ACC) on ESPN, in conference play that can be live streamed free here. Orange fans can find the radio broadcast on The Score 1260, while Irish fans can tune in to 89 WLS.
This weekend's clash with Duke marked the first time the legendary programs, and their historic coaches clashed as conference rivals. "It was just a great game," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "I don't think I've ever been involved in a better game in here where both teams played at such a high level. Both teams just went after it. We've had a lot of games that have been here that are great. There's never been one as good as this one."
C.J. Fair dropped 28 points on the Blue Devils, which was a career-high for the Orange's leading scorer. "I knew for us to win I would have to contribute offensively," said Fair. "I was able to not force things once I got going. I felt I was the hot hand and my teammates kept giving me the ball."
They must guard against a letdown, however. Notre Dame's record wouldn't suggest they are a threat to 'Cuse and their vaunted 2-3 zone defense, but they are riding high following their own heart-stopper in overtime vs. Boston College.
"It's a heck of a win for us, man," head coach Mike Brey said. "Much needed. We had a little bit of everything over the last two hours in there."
