The man once deemed to be a star witness against former NFL star Aaron Hernandez in the murder of Odin Lloyd will now not even be called to testify against him, according to ProFootballTalk.com
Prosecutors now consider Carlos Ortiz to be "completely unreliable" based on how many times he has changed his version of events since Lloyd's bullet-riddled body was found discarded less than a mile from Hernandez's North Attleborough mansion late last June.
Known as a longtime associate of the former New England Patriots tight end, Ortiz has previously told investigators he was with Hernandez on the night of the murder and saw him and Ernest Wallace leave the vehicle they were traveling with Lloyd in, who never returned to the car.
Authorities have publicly theorized Hernandez may have killed Lloyd based on his knowledge about other violent crimes the 24-year-old former Florida star is alleged to have been involved in.
Police have also implicated Hernandez as the potential triggerman in a 2012, drive-by, double slaying in downtown Boston that remains unsolved. Authorities later recovered the vehicle believed to be used in the crime hidden in the garage of a home rented in the name of one of Hernandez's uncles.
