Danny Garcia Next Fight: Lamont Peterson Wants 'Swift'? Peterson Wants To Be Best At 140 Pounds Before Becoming Welterweight [VIDEO]

Lamont Peterson has done well in shaking off a performance enhancing drug controversy as well as an embarrassing loss in Atlantic City to Lucas Matthysse to become a major player in the 140-lb. division once again.

Peterson knocked off undefeated Dierry Jean last Saturday in his hometown of Washington D.C., and said he wants to fight Danny Garcia to become the best 140-lb. fighter in the world before taking on the challenge of moving to welterweight.

"He's considered to be the No. 1 guy and rightfully so," Peterson said of Garcia. "I do want to be considered the best 140-pounder out there before I leave the weight class. I do want to move up to welterweight soon. Sooner the better."

Still, Matthysse eviscerated Peterson in such fashion, that the idea of now facing "Swift" might raise eyebrows. Peterson said that train of thought is headed in the wrong direction though, claiming Matthysse is more difficult for him than Garcia would be.

"Styles make fights," said Peterson. "I said to people that asked me about that before I ever fought Matthysse that Matthysse would be a harder fight for me than Danny. Not saying that Matthysse was better than Danny or Danny was better than Matthysse. I've been boxing 20 years. I know where my style fits best."

While Garcia hasn't named an opponent for his next fight yet, it is scheduled for March 15th, likely too soon for Peterson to be fully ready. According to reports though, that March 15th fight might take place in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

"For me it is an honor that Danny will fight in Puerto Rico," Angel Garcia, Danny's father and trainer said. "He feels very Puerto Rican, and we wish that people would [view him] as another boricua [Puerto Rican]." The rumored opponent is Mexican fighter Mauricio Herrera, but that hasn't been confirmed.
