Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, the Chicago Blackhawks (32-8-11, 75 points) and the Detroit Red Wings (21-18-10, 52 points) go head-to-head live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for the first of two meetings against each other this season. The game can be live streamed here. Chicago fans can hear all of the bone-crunching action by adjusting their radios to 720 WGN while Detroit fans can do the same on 97.1 The Ticket.
These two Original Six teams used to be heated division rivals until Detroit moved to the Eastern Conference this season, but some bad blood is likely to still be there. Chicago is coming off of a weekend where they won back-to-back games and still sit atop the Central Division while Detroit has lost three out of its last four games and has dealt with a rash of injuries.
The Blackhawks defeated the Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins over the weekend and have won their last three. Chicago doesn't come into the Joe Louis Arena as much anymore, but it should still be electric.
"I'm sure in the building, it'll be an exciting place knowing we're not there as much," coach Joel Quenneville said via NHL.com. "There will be Hawks fans. There will be Wings fans. Everybody will be in it to a different level than anyone we play."
The Red Wings are coming off of a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Monday.
"I was disappointed with our compete level," coach Mike Babcock said per NHL.com. "We have a lot of kids in this room, so we try to be as positive as we can every day. It's their job to give us something every day to be positive about, and it's our job to catch them doing good things. But when we're not doing good things [and] we're not competing hard enough I tell them. It's straightforward. There's no gray area, it's either black or white."
The Red Wings are missing two of their three highest scorers as Pavel Datsyuk (15-17-32) is out with a lower-body injury and Daniel Alfredsson (11-19-30) is sidelined with a back injury. Henrik Zetterberg leads the team with 39 points off of 15 goals and 24 assists and has three points in his last two games.
Patrick Kane has paced the Blackhawks with 56 points off of 23 tallies and 33 assists while Patrick Sharp has 25 markers and 25 helpers for 50 points and Jonathan Toews has found the back of the net 17 times and added 31 assists for 48 points.
In the crease, Chicago will likely turn to Corey Crawford, who is 19-7-7 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage while Detroit may turn to Jonas Gustavsson, who is 11-3-2 with a 2.39 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
The Blackhawks look for their fourth straight win while the Red Wings try to bounce back from recent setbacks and overcome injuries when these teams hit the ice tonight at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
