On the same day that cornerback Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers to get to the Super Bowl, quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots lost to the Denver Broncos to miss their chance at meeting the Seahawks in the biggest game of the year, but it didn't stop Brady from sharing his two cents about his feelings toward Sherman's outburst after the game.
Sherman infamously ripped San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree after the game and called him a "mediocre" receiver. Brady said he didn't know Sherman too well but said that he always tries to win with graciousness and hinted that perhaps Sherman shoudl do the same.
"I don't know him at all," Brady said of Sherman on WEEI-FM, according to NFL.com. "I've watched him play. He's that kind of guy. So, you know. I approach the game -- and I have respect for my opponents. That's the way our team always plays. We win with graciousness, and when we lose, we could do better. Some teams don't always do that, or that's not their program."
Brady offered more thoughts on the matter.
"The only way to counter that is to beat them," Brady said per NFL.com. "When you don't win, it's hard not to say -- you just gotta shut your mouth and listen to it. Maybe when you get an opportunity down the road, maybe that's a source of motivation. But they got a good team, they played well all year. They played well at home. And that's why they advanced, too."
Sherman eventually apologized for his conduct after the game and sad that he could have handled it better. Sherman's tip of a pass intended for Crabtree with 22 seconds left in the game led to a Seattle interception and sealed the game for the Seahawks. Sherman then appeared to tap Crabtree on the backside and extended his hand for a handshake which led to Crabtree pushing his face.
During a postgame interview with Fox Sports, Sherman went off and said that Crabtree was a mediocre receiver. He eventually apologized and will look to move on.
The Seahawks head to MetLife Stadium to take on the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2.
