Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, the Toronto Maple Leafs (25-20-5, 55 points) and Phoenix Coyotes (23-16-9, 55 points) faceoff for the second and final time this season live from Jobing.com Arena in Phoenix. Toronto enters play on the heels of a season-high four-game winning streak while Phoenix has won back-to-back games for the first time in almost six weeks with their most recent win. The first time these two teams met, the Maple Leafs notched a 2-1 shootout victory over the Coyotes in Toronto on Dec. 19.
Toronto is coming off of a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
"We haven't started that strong in a while. We continued to push the game and continued to push the pace of the game. Throughout the whole night, we elevated our game," Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf said via NHL.com.
The Coyotes are feeling good after a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
"Usually to win consecutive games, you have to play well in consecutive games so that's a positive sign for us," coach Dave Tippet said per NHL.com.
The Coyotes have been led offensively by Radim Vrbata, who has 35 points off of 11 goals and 24 assists while Martin Hanzal has 14 markers and 20 helpers for 34 points and Mikkel Boedker is tied for the team lead by lighting the lamp 14 times and has added 18 assists for 32 points.
Phil Kessel is on a five-game point streak and has paced the Maple Leafs with 48 points while finding the twine 23 times and adding 25 helpers, while James van Riemsdyk has a goal in four of his last five games and a total of 19 tallies and 18 helpers for 37 points and Mason Raymond has found the twine 13 times and added 18 assists for 31 points.
In net, Jonathan Bernier is likely to start for Toronto and is 16-14-4 with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage while Mike Smith is probable to start for Phoenix and is 17-13-8 with a 2.83 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
Toronto looks to win its fifth game in a row while Phoenix hopes to win its third straight when the puck drops tonight at Jobing.com Arena in Phoenix.
