Derrick Rose Injury Update: 'D-Rose' Off Crutches, Return To Bulls Bench Soon; Playoff Return Possible? [VIDEO]

Chicago Bulls star guard Derrick Rose is off crutches and could soon be joining the team on the bench as he continues to recover from season-ending knee surgery.

According to Yahoo! Sports, coach Tom Thibodeau expects the 25-year-old former league MVP to soon began traveling with the team and adding to his daily workout regiment. Rose tore the meniscus in his right knee at Portland in early November and was instantly ruled out for the remainder of the season by the Bulls. He also sat out last year while recovering from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

More recently, Rose has hinted that he may be open to returning for the playoffs if the Bulls qualify and he finds it to be the right situation. After being projected as one of the league's top title contenders, the Bulls have struggled mightily in Rose's absence, at one point falling several games under .500 and out-of-contention in the watered down Eastern Conference.

But, ironically enough, since trading All-Star forward Luol Deng to Cleveland, the Bulls had won five in a row before falling to the Washington Wizards at home Monday night 102-88.

"He's coming along fine," Thibodeau said of Rose prior to Monday night's loss. "He's doing more and more, but he still has a long way to go... he's doing great."
