James Franklin Penn State Coaching Rumors: Brandt Snedeker Promises Free Golf Lessons for Life if Franklin Stays at Vanderbilt [VIDEO]

A Vanderbilt alum is not letting football coach James Franklin go without a fight.

Franklin is said to be the leading candidate to replace Bill O'Brien as Penn State football coach, according to multiple media outlets. PGA Tour member Brandt Snedeker is trying to level the playing field for Vanderbilt, Franklin's current employer.

According to extramustard.si.com, Snedeker, the 2012 Fed Ex Cup Golf Tour Championship winner, took to twitter to sweeten the pot for Franklin to remain the Commodores football coach.

Extramustard.si.com posted a tweet from Snedeker, a former NCAA All-America at Vanderbilt, issued a public plea to Franklin:

"Sweetening the offer to keep @jamesfranklinvu here.. Free golf lessons for life if he stays.. Impossible to turn down!! #bestcoachanywhere"

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that a meeting between the Washington Redskins and Franklin is up in the air because Franklin has a "good shot" at the Penn State job, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The Post added that a meeting between the Redskins and Franklin could take place as early as Thursday and that the Cleveland Browns could become involved if Franklin does not get the Penn State job.

CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman tweeted on Tuesday that Franklin had the inside track to the Nittany Lions job:

"#Vandy coach James Franklin has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the vacancy at #PennState, per source"

Franklin has a 24-15 record at the school, having led the team to back-to-back 9-4 seasons in 2012 and 2013.

According to the Sporting News, Franklin was born and raised in Pennsylvania, played collegiately at East Stroudsburg University and began his coaching career in Pennsylvania as well.

The Nittany Lions, however, will enter 2014 on its third year of a four-year ban tied to the Jerry Sandusky scandal, which still looms as a drawback to the job.
