Bobby Petrino has been offered the Louisville head football coaching job and reps for the veteran coach are now meeting with school officials in hopes of finalizing a contract.
USA TODAY reports Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich and Petrino's agent David Dunn were huddling on Wednesday and hoped to have a deal finalized by Thursday when Jurich is set to meet with members of the Personnel Committee of the Louisville Alumni Association.
Petrino previously spent four seasons as Louisville coach, composing a 41-9 record and leading the school to an Orange Bowl victory. He eventually left the post to become coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
Petrino's stay in Atlanta proved brief, with him leaving in less than a season to take the head coaching position at Arkansas. In 2012,
Petrino's stay at Arkansas begin to unravel after he was involved in a motorcycle accident and told Arkansas AD Jeff Long that he was the only person on the motorcycle. It was later revealed that Petrino was riding with his mistress, who he'd helped get a job at the university.
After being dismissed at Arkansas, Petrino was out of coaching for a year before accepting the head coaching job at Western Kentucky where he went 8-4 in his only season.
