The Big 12 conference made a huge statement last night when Oklahoma upset the Alabama Crimson Tide on national television. Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET the No. 13 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-2, 7-2 Big 12), will host the No. 8 ranked Missouri Tigers (11-2, 7-1 SEC) and attempt to continue the trend. Both Oklahoma State and Missouri lost their last time out, but Cowboys running back Kyle Staley says they've put their 30-10 loss to Baylor behind them. "It was an upsetting loss but we can't dwell on it. It's the past," Staley said.
"We didn't even watch film, we just go on to the next team. We're very excited to play Missouri, an SEC team, in Dallas. We have a lot of Texas kids that probably dreamed of playing there, so it's going to be a fun, exciting time. Just move forward, you can't look behind you."
Missouri isn't complaining about a berth in this high-profile bowl game either. "We know firsthand just how great of a trip this is, and how first-class of an operation the Cotton Bowl runs," said Tigers coach Gary Pinkel.
Adding another layer to this matchup is the familiarity between Missouri and Oklahoma State; just one year ago Missouri debuted in the SEC after a lengthy run in the Big 12.
"I don't know if it seems weird (playing Missouri)," Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. "We are still familiar with them. We played them so many years in a row and have watched them play. They're very similar to the way they were."
Eyebrows were raised by Missouri's jump, but they've clearly fit in well in the SEC. "Offensively they have great speed," Gundy said. "They're tall and rangy at the wideout position. The quarterbacks are playing good, running backs make plays."
