The Tampa Buccaneers have fired coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik, ESPN is reporting.
The team announced the moves in a statement released Monday, adding "the results of the past two years have not lived up to our standards and we believe the time has come to find a new direction. We thank Greg for his hard work and effort the past two seasons, but we feel these moves are necessary to achieve our goals."
After starting the season at 0-8, the Bucs finished at 4-12. In two seasons, Schiano composed an 11-21 overall record. He had three years remaining on the contract he signed in 2012.
Schiano was also embroiled in an ongoing dispute with opening-day starting quarterback Josh Freeman this season that ultimately led to the signal-caller being compelled to acknowledge his presence in the league's substance abuse-program due to a prescription for Adderrall. The Bucs later cut Freeman, who signed with Minnesota.
Schiano vehemently denied that he was the source of the leak to the media. Schiano, who formerly coached at Rutgers, has already been linked to the Penn State job if Bill O'Brien leaves for the Houston Texans as rumored.
