Texas Longhorns Coaching Change: Mack Brown Buyout Package Too High? [VIDEO]

Mack Brown is demanding he be paid at least $1.3 million annually through the year 2020 as part of the deal where he has formally announced his intentions to resign as Texas Longhorns football coach.

According to the Austin Statesman, Brown, who is under contract with the university until then, recently made his demands known. Prior reports had indicated the longtime coach was pegged to be headed for a "special advisor" role at the university that would pay him in the neighborhood of $500,000 a year.

The newspaper adds a high-ranking Texas official now fears university brass might balk at Brown's high-end demand and what has already been a nightmare PR situation may become even messier.

After months of speculation and mounting pressure, Brown recently announced he would walk away from his coveted post after 16 seasons at the end of the year. During his tenure, Texas went 158-47, including winning a national title in 2005 behind star quarterback Vince Young.

Since Brown's announcement, several big name coaches have been linked to the Texag gig including Jim Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin, Jon Gruden and at one point Alabama's Nick Saban who has since inked an extension with the Crimson Tide.
