The San Francisco Giants won the 2012 World Series beating the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in a gruelling match on Sunday. This is their second World Series title in three seasons. They had won it previously in 2010.

It was a comprehensive victory for the Giants as they swept the Tigers 4-0 in the best-of-seven series. The Tigers had no chance against a determined and steadfast Giants team that displayed sharp fielding, accurate pitching and hard hitting skills.

The Giants were on the brink of elimination in the playoffs and they really did well coming from behind to overcome huge deficits against the St Louis Cardinals.

The Tigers who performed below par in the first three games of the World Series did pose a challenge in Game 4 taking it into the extra inning but it was too late for them. A resilient Giants team gave them no opportunity whatsoever.

Marco Scutaro was the star for the Giants delivering yet another key hit, a go ahead single and 2 outs in the extra inning to see the Giants beat the Tigers 4-3.

The Associated Press quoted Brian Sabean, the Giants general manager as saying: "Detroit probably didn't know what it was in for. Our guys had a date with destiny."

It was pretty cold at the Comerica Park. After three consecutive victories the Giants were finally tested. But they sealed Sunday's victory when their pitcher Sergio Romo got Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers' Triple Crown winner. He pitched the final inning striking out three straight, including Cabrera for the last out and the Giants' win.

Giants star Buster Posey said: "Tonight was a battle. And I think tonight was a fitting way for us to end it because those guys played hard. They didn't stop, and it's an unbelievable feeling."

Sandoval aka Kung Fu Panda, who was benched during the 2010 World Series, went 8 for 16, and a three-homer game in Game 1.

Sandoval said: "You learn. You learn from everything that happened in your career. ... We're working hard to enjoy this moment right now."

The first big hit for the Tigers came from Cabrera with a two-run homer. Posey did well for the Giants with a 2-run homer in the sixth inning putting them ahead 3-2 while Delmon Young in the bottom half, scored a tying home run.

Scutaro said of the victory: "That's what it makes so much special, the way we did it. We're always against the wall and my team, it just came through first series, second series and now we sweep the Tigers."

The Tigers had previously lost the World Series in 2006 to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Sunday's game was their seventh straight World Series loss.

Jim Leyland, the Tigers manager said: "Obviously, there was no doubt about it. They swept us. So there was certainly no bad breaks, no fluke. Simple, they did better than we did. It was freaky. I would have never guessed we would have swept the Yankees and I would have never guessed the Giants would have swept us."
