The Phoenix Suns are said to have become more willing to trade Kevin Durant, as their early asking prices in talks with the Houston Rockets have softened over time. While the "Slim Reaper" is open to staying with the Suns, the story is quite different this time.

According to a new report, Phoenix has pursued trade discussions with Houston since the end of the season, but its price for the 14-time All-Star player has fallen significantly.

Phoenix Suns Show Urgency Amid Durant Trade Rumors

In a new report from The Athletic's Kelly Iko, the Suns' urgency is driven by two primary objectives: unloading Durant and regaining control over their own draft assets, which were sent to Houston in exchange for a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Suns are particularly coveting the No. 10 pick in the next NBA Draft, looking to reboot and rebuild their roster.

"Since the conclusion of the season, Houston has fielded several calls from Phoenix, who have since gradually lowered their asking price for Durant," Iko wrote.

The Suns' aggressive approach suggests a possible shift toward youth and long-term sustainability over gasping through the final few years of Durant's contract with a win-now approach that, to date, has not produced meaningful playoff success.

Houston Rockets Remain Cautious Despite Interest in Durant

While the Rockets possess the draft assets and emerging talent to make the trade for Durant feasible on paper, sources indicate that there is caution within the Rockets' organization.

Our March report said that the Rockets could be Durant's next stop, but this will still depend on the Suns' offer in the package and if Houston is willing to let go of some of its core players.

While Durant offers established playoff experience and scoring lineage, Houston is concerned that the price to obtain him might upset their budding young core.

With Durant at 36 and recovering from several injuries, the Rockets' front office is worried about his long-term value, according to Bleacher Report. However, if the price tag continues to decline, Houston may re-enter serious negotiations—especially if Phoenix is willing to look at draft picks over core players.

May Another NBA Team Poach Durant?

With the Suns also indicating a willingness to negotiate and lower their asking price, other franchises across the league might view an opportunity to make a bid for the former MVP.

Durant's worth, though softened somewhat by age and injury, remains incredibly significant in light of his peak-level scoring, leadership abilities, and playoff experience.

If the Rockets do not take the bait, a team who wants to move up to contender realm with a veteran star could challenge the Suns' commitment with an aggressive offer. Celtics could enter the discussion as rumors suggested that the team is open to trading some of its important pieces including Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holiday.
