The San Francisco Giants shutout the Detroit Tigers in a 2-0 victory to extend their lead in the World Series. With two victories in the first two games, the Giants are comfortably poised to grab their second World Series title in three years.

The Giants pitcher, Madison Bumgarner said: "It definitely feels a whole lot better than having our backs against the wall. But you can't relax. We've got to keep pushing."

Game 3 will be played Saturday at the Tigers home ground and this time the Giants aren't trailing anymore. They've been very impressive this season overcoming huge deficits and then eventually beating their opponents like they did against Cincinnati and St. Louis.

Anibal Sanchez will start for Detroit against the Giants' Ryan Vogelsong in Game 3.

In the second inning, the Tigers starter Doug Fister was hit in the head by Gregor Blanco's line drive. It was a pretty nasty hit and looked painful. Fister, however, appeared OK and continued pitching. He even looked impressive after that.

Fister said: "They asked me the typical concussion questions. I'm not concerned. I have a minor bump. According to my dad, my whole life his saying has always been if I got hit in the head I'd be OK. That's how I take it."

It was a combined team effort by the Giants and they did well sticking to the basics with Santiago Casilla pitching a perfect eighth.

Marco Scutaro, Giants second baseman said: "That's the way baseball is. When things are going well, things are bouncing your way. If things aren't going well, you just keep battling and playing hard. No one is taking anything for granted."

Several fans and members of the Giants' family had gathered at the AT&T Park on Thursday hoping that it was the last home game for the Giants this season. The Giants will win the championship if they win their next two games at the Comerica Park.

Gregor Blanco's bunt gave the Giants the lead. "I was joking with (coach) Roberto Kelly when I got to first base, 'We practiced that today.' That was a perfect bunt. I wasn't really trying to do that. I think it was just meant to be and I'm thankful that I did it," he said."

As for the Tigers, they looked a little out of sorts. Even Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera couldn't do much to help his side against a resilient Giants team. He was seen hopping up in frustration when Sandoval caught his line drive to third.

Jim Leyland, the Tigers manager said: "Well, what are you going to do about it? We got two hits tonight. I'm certainly not going to sit up here and rip my offense because last night I thought we had some pretty good swings. Cabrera hit a bullet tonight."
