With Jimmy Butler's addition to the Golden State Warriors, the Dubs are slowly picking up the important pieces for their playoff push. However, the beleaguered team needs a legitimate center to increase its chances this postseason.
But even with their revitalization, the team is still determined to make its roster more flexible for long-term success. Their next target? Toronto Raptors big man Jakob Poeltl.
Warriors' Frontcourt Struggles Lead to Big Man Pursuit
Golden State's stunning turnaround following Butler's signing has put them back in the playoff picture. He and Stephen Curry have formed a dynamic duo that has been the engine behind the team's success lately, but the front office knows that it won't be enough to depend only on their backcourt duo, Sports Tak reports.
If they are to maintain the momentum, the Warriors require a strong presence in the paint—someone who can give rim protection, rebounding, and effective scoring around the basket.
Keeping this in mind, the franchise has focused its attention on Jakob Poeltl, a 7-foot-1 center who has been one of the most efficient big men in the league this season in quiet fashion.
They could have gotten John Collins last trade deadline, but the franchise appears to be looking for an effective post-up player.

Jakob Poeltl Comes Out as Golden State's Best Target
From Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Warriors are looking into trading for Poeltl, who is this season averaging 14.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks.
"Poeltl is the perfect dirty-work player for a Golden State team that features plenty of scoring options," Swartz said.
His skill set is suited to the Warriors' system. Poeltl is an excellent screen-setter, a good rebounder, and a great pick-and-roll finisher—just the kind of player who would complement Curry's style of play. His defensive skills would also take some load off Draymond Green, helping the Warriors strengthen their interior defense without sacrificing too much offense.
What Could Warriors Lose in Exchange for Poeltl?
Reports suggest that Golden State is prepared to send young guard Moses Moody and veteran sharpshooter Buddy Hield to the Raptors in exchange for Poeltl.
While losing Moody, a promising young talent would be a tough call, the opportunity to land a dependable center might be too tempting for the Warriors to pass up.
Why Do the Warriors Need Poeltl Now?
Despite their resurgence, Golden State cannot afford to be complacent. They are still playing catch-up after a rough start to the season, and every game matters as they aim for a deep playoff run. Adding a center like Poeltl would improve their interior defense.
The Dubs would also benefit from Poeltl's offensive efficiency. The Austrian center has a 61.4% shooting from the field not to mention that he's a good screen setter. This would give more space to Curry and Butler.
Another important thing is that Poeltl's rebounding would guarantee possessions for the Warriors. It's the team's glaring weakness given that Steve Kerr often relies on a "small ball" approach.
Before Poeltl, Nikola Vucevic was rumored to be under Golden State's trade radar.
