The Dallas Cowboys (7-7) will try to shake off an absolutely brutal loss last week against the Packers in which they blew a 26-3 halftime lead and ceded control of the NFC East to the Philadelphia Eagles. This week they have the division rival Washington Redskins (3-11) on tap in NFC action that can be live streamed herenetf or watched on Fox. Cowboys fans can listen to the game on 105.3 The Fan, while Skins fans may do the same on ESPN 980.
The Redskins will go with Kirk Cousins under center for the second straight week. Cousins has replaces Robert Griffin III, with the official reason for RGIII's benching being preservation for next year. Cousins almost led the Skins to victory, as they fell a two-point conversion shy of beating Atlanta despite seven turnovers.
The Cowboys, despite their mishap last week and annual December struggles, control their own destiny and believe they're still postseason bound. "We still control what we feel like we can get done," embattled quarterback Tony Romo said. "It just doesn't feel like it right now because we let it slip away."
Head coach Jason Garrett, the only member of the Cowboys who may be facing more scrutiny than Romo, believes the stretch run will test his team's character.
"If you have the right kind of guys on your team, you handle the inevitable adversities of the season better than if you don't," Garrett said. "If you put emotion into something, passion into something and it doesn't work out, sometimes that's hard to swallow. But again, you have to regroup."
Mike Shanahan's Redskins have far less to play for than Dallas, and many of the players are auditioning for jobs and roles next year. Cousins is a long shot to actually unseat RGIII as the team's starter, but he may become trade bait for other squads looking for a new passer.
"The thing that you want on your football team is that you want competition, legitimate competition," Shanahan said. "The better players you have, the more people compete. When you look behind your shoulder and you know that guy's pretty good, it makes you work a little bit harder."
