Buffalo Bills quarterback and 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen has locked up his future with the team, signing a record six-year, $330 million contract extension that will last until 2030 season.
The contract, which features $250 million in guaranteed funds, is an NFL record, topping the previous record held by Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson at $230 million.
Josh Allen's Historic Contract Makes NFL History
With the extension, Allen is now the highest-paid Bills player in franchise history and solidifies himself as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. According to ESPN, the 28-year-old quarterback was already signed through 2028, but the extension guarantees that he will be with the Bills until age 34.

The extension comes on the heels of a dominant 2024 season, where Allen became the first player in NFL history to achieve at least 25 touchdown passes, 10 rushing touchdowns, and fewer than 10 interceptions in one season.
His final numbers—28 passing touchdowns, 12 rushing touchdowns, and only six interceptions—underscored his overall supremacy.
Allen's MVP-Worthy Performance Fuels Extension
Allen's 119.6 passer rating in 2024 was the fourth highest in league history, trailing only legendary performances by Aaron Rodgers (2011, 2020) and Peyton Manning (2004).
Notably, both Rodgers and Manning secured MVP honors in those seasons, an accolade that Allen also earned last year. He joined Bills legends Thurman Thomas (1991) and O.J. Simpson (1973) as the franchise's only MVP winners.
Ball security was one of the most important areas of improvement in Allen's game. He had only eight turnovers in 2024, a career low. This made him and the Bills win their fifth straight AFC East division title, solidifying his status as a franchise cornerstone.
Allen's Rushing Dominance Sets Him Apart
Since joining the NFL as a seventh overall draft pick in 2018, Allen has been a force on the ground, recording 65 rushing touchdowns—10 more than any other quarterback during that time, USA Today reports. His ability to be both a runner and a passer has made him one of the most feared playmakers in the league, enabling Buffalo to create an offense that makes defenders stay on the run.
Bills Lock Up Key Players to Build Around Allen
Allen's record-breaking extension is just one part of Buffalo's desperate push to keep a championship-level roster together. The team has signed several of its key players to new contracts:
- Greg Rousseau (DE): Four-year, $80 million extension
- Terrel Bernard (LB): Four-year, $50 million contract
- Khalil Shakir (WR): Four-year, $53 million contract
These signings will keep the Bills building around their franchise quarterback and keep both offensive and defensive components in place for the long term.
Josh Allen's Leadership is Incomparable
Allen's leadership has been crucial to Buffalo's recent success, and this deal further proves his status as the team's focal point. In 2024, he was one of two team captains, along with linebacker Terrel Bernard, as proof of his value in the locker room.
Interestingly, Allen also became the first player in 21 seasons to be MVP without being listed as a first-team All-Pro. Just two other quarterbacks, John Elway (1987) and Steve McNair (2003)—ever achieved MVP status under comparable circumstances.
While Allen is tough inside the field, he showed his soft side when he congratulated the Oishei Children's Hospital patients in an emotional video.
