Al Trautwig, a veteran sportscaster whose voice became heavily associated with the MSG Network, has passed away at the age of 86. The news was confirmed by his son Alex, who confirmed that his father died Sunday due to complications related to cancer.

The type of cancer has not been made public.

MSG released an official statement mourning his loss, according to the Associated Press.

"Al was a staple on MSG Networks' Knicks, Rangers and Yankees coverage for more than 30 years, and his passion for the teams he covered was undeniable," MSG said in the statement.

"He leaves behind one of the great legacies in New York sports broadcasting history," the statement added. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Al's family and friends."

Al Trautwig's Prolific Career

In a career that spanned more than 30 years, Trautwig was able to cover a total of 16 16 Olympics. In addition, he was also able to cover sports events such as the Indianapolis 500, the Tour de France, the New York City marathon, and the U.S. Open tennis tournament, according to AP.

PEOPLE notes that he has worked for the likes of the USA Network and ABC Sports.

More importantly, he became the voice of both the pre-game and post-game broadcasts for New York's biggest teams, such as the Knicks, Rangers, and Yankees.

After leaving MSG in 2021, Trautwig turned his attention to teaching and taught at Adelphi University.

For his work, Trautwig won numerous Emmy awards.
