The Philadelphia Eagles have not received any formal invitation to visit the White House, according to reports. These reports likewise clarify that the team has not rejected any invitation simply because they have yet to receive any.
It can be recalled that the Eagles scored a Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9.
According to TMZ, the team's owner, Jeffrey Lurie, only gave a non-answer when asked about visiting the White House prior to the game.
Should they receive an invitation, the team is said to be "honored" to make the trip.
Citing NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, TMZ said that the Eagles are reportedly "excited about" the possibility of going to the White House.
The Eagles' Canceled Visit
During Donald Trump's first term as president, the Eagles had received an official invitation to the White House that the administration eventually canceled.
At that time, Trump had commented that players who protested during the national anthem were "hurting the game." This comment did not sit well with many football players, according to a report by Daily Mail.
The Eagles eventually decided to send a group of less than 10 players to the White House, but the administration ended up just canceling the whole thing altogether.
"The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow," Trump said in a statement at that time. "They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country."
"The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better, he added."
