This year's Invictus Games, which was held in Whistler, Canada, has come to a close. Over 500 competitors from over 20 nations came to compete in various sports that were scheduled from Feb. 8 to 16.

The closing ceremony, which wrapped up the Invictus Games, included a performance by Jelly Roll, who shared a powerful moment with the participants during his performance of "I Am Not Okay."

The ceremony also featured a speech by founder Prince Harry, as well as a surprise appearance by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Justin Trudeau's Message to American Athletes

The closing ceremony, which was held at Rogers Arena, became the venue of a powerful message from the prime minister. In his speech, Trudeau hailed how the Invictus Games celebrates perseverance, strength, and resilience.

"It's about not letting an injury, whether it be physical or mental, define who you are or what you can accomplish," he said, according to PEOPLE. "It's about inspiring your fellow veterans, your fellow compatriots who have or are putting their lives on the line to defend our values, our liberty, our freedom; it's about all of you...Each and every one of you is an inspiration."

Trudeau also made it a point to address the athletes from the United States.

"I know, my American friends, you've been reminded this past week that your Canadian friends and every other competitor in this place is just as proud to fight for their flags as you are to fight for yours — the stars and stripes," Trudeau said to them.

"We all stand proudly together. We all believe in a future where we have values and a friendship that endures the test of time," he reminded. "We have stood together for generations, and Canada and Canadians will never stop fighting for the friendship that unites our two countries through tough times and through the best times in the world."

"Americans are our friends, always," Trudeau affirmed. "And we are yours."

Prince Harry Says Thank You

Prince Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014 to help wounded, sick, and injured service personnel and veterans, also had his turn on the stage. The prince took the time to give his gratitude to the organizing committee and, most especially, those who took part in the different competitions.

"To those of you whose journeys to these Games have been difficult and uncertain, who questioned whether you would even make it here today, thank you for showing us what is possible," said Prince Harry.

"In the pursuit of saving yourselves, you have also saved all of us, those who love you and those who don't even know you," he added.

The next Invictus Games, which will be held in 2027, will take place in Birmingham, United Kingdom, Prince Harry's birth country.
