Golf's iconic figure, Tiger Woods, confirmed that his mother, Kultida, passed away on Tuesday. The 15-time major champion made the sad announcement through social media, but the cause of death was not revealed.
People all over the world, including President Donald Trump and some fans, sent their condolences to the mourning family.
Tiger Woods Pays Tribute to His Mother
In an emotional statement on X (formerly Twitter), Tiger described his mother as a "force of nature" with an undeniable spirit.
"My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh," Tiger wrote.
He also appreciated her unconditional support throughout his career, acknowledging that none of his personal achievements would have been possible without her. His mother was his biggest fan but also a lovely grandmother to his two children, Sam and Charlie.
Tiger concluded his message by thanking fans for their support and prayers, requesting time with his family during this moment. He ended his tribute with the warm sentiments of, "Love you Mom."
Kultida Woods Had Been Instrumental in Tiger's Career
According to CNN, Kultida was a Thai native who had been a constant presence in her son's life and career. She was seen cheering him on at tournaments, most recently at the SoFi Center in Florida during a Tomorrow's Golf League (TGL) event. Cameras caught her smiling and clapping after her son sank a crucial putt.
Beyond the golf course, Kultida was instrumental in shaping Tiger's trademark final-round look. She believed that red was his power color, which led him to adopt the now-iconic red and black outfit on Sundays.
"My mom thought, being a Capricorn, that (red) was my power color, or some BS thing like that, so I end up wearing red and end up winning some golf tournaments," he jokingly told Jimmy Fallon in a past interview.
Standing by Tiger Through His Toughest Moments
Kultida stood by her son through triumph and hardship, including one of the lowest points of his career. Back in 2010, when Tiger had a globally televised press conference to admit to having several extramarital affairs, his mother sat proudly in the front row as he took responsibility for his actions.
Her support acted as a source of strength for her son while cementing the values he learned from her from an early age.
Fans and prominent personalities took to condolence mode after the news of her death filtered in. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who awarded Tiger the Presidential Medal of Freedom back in 2019, welcomed the world to pay their respects, FoxNews learned.
"I was just notified that Tiger Woods' wonderful Mother, Kultida, passed away — She has gone onto greener fairways!" Trump wrote. "Kultida Woods was an amazing influence on Tiger and gave him much of his strength and brilliance. Melania and I send our love and prayers to Tiger and his incredible family!"
Fellow golfers and fans also came out on their social media accounts to express how sad they felt.
"Such a sad day! Prayers and condolences to you and your family @TigerWoods," one fan wrote.
"We're so sorry, Tiger," another posted.
"So sorry to hear about this. From the time I started covering Tiger as a junior golfer, Kultida was always close by, supporting him. Prayers for Tiger and his family," shared PGA Tour broadcaster Jeff Eisenband.
One fan even recalled a personal memory of Kultida, according to Athlon Sports.
"I will never forget her handing me a TW pin several years ago on a Sunday at the Masters because I was wearing Red and Black Tiger gear. What a sweet, sweet lady."
