According to Hardwood Heroics, Nick Richards is becoming one of the most sought-after centers in this trading cycle. Scoring 9.2 points and 7.7 rebounds along with 1.3 blocks per game with a very solid 56.4% from the field, the center combines very good defensive features with economic freedom.

This fact, together with his playing abilities and an extremely affordable $15 million three-year contract, renders him highly precious to the aggressive pursuit by the Suns ahead of the February 6 trading deadline.

Trade Chatter Heating Up

NBA insider Evan Sidery reports that the Suns are very interested in Richards and join a list of suitors that includes the LA Lakers, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, and Denver Nuggets. However, Phoenix has an issue in building a deal that falls within their second apron salary cap restrictions.

According to reports, the Suns may add Josh Okogie's expiring $8.2 million contract to the deal with Nurkic to make it work financially. Phoenix is eager to get rid of Nurkic's contract, but Hornets insider John Gambadoro says Charlotte may not want him in return for Richards.

Why Richards Fits the Suns' Plan

Richards' defense and his all-around versatility make him a perfect fit for the Suns. Unlike Nurkic and Mason Plumlee, who have not entirely lived up to expectations, Richards would be a much-needed injection into Phoenix's frontcourt. He can protect the rim and make contributions on both ends, which could steady the Suns' season as they sit at 18-19, fighting to stay competitive.
