Conor McGregor, the Irish MMA fighter known as "Notorious," has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Dublin hotel in December 2018.

The plaintiff, Nikita Ní Laimhín, is suing McGregor for civil damages, claiming she was raped by the fighter and another man, James Lawrence.

According to TMZ, Ní Laimhín's legal team alleges that McGregor and Lawrence sexually assaulted her during a night out in Dublin. The incident occurred after McGregor allegedly picked up Ní Laimhín and her friends following a Christmas party.

The group traveled to various locations, including McGregor's penthouse suite at the Beacon Hotel, where the alleged assault took place.

According to Ní Laimhín's lawyer, McGregor "pinned her down" and physically restrained her, leading to severe bruising and injuries, including scratches on her breast and damage to her wrists. Ní Laimhín later went to the hospital, where medical staff confirmed the injuries she sustained.

McGregor's Defense and the Extortion Claim

McGregor's legal team disputes the accusations, claiming the encounter was consensual and part of "rough sex." They further argue that Ní Laimhín had several chances to report her claims but did not until much later.

They suggest the plaintiff is attempting to extort money from McGregor and Lawrence. Despite the defense's position, medical evidence and witness testimony paint a much darker picture of the events that unfolded that night.

Medical Evidence and Testimony

The Guardian reports that Dr. Daniel Keane, a forensic examiner, testified about the extent of Ní Laimhín's injuries, stating that the bruising was "quite unusual" for a typical sexual assault case. Additionally, the plaintiff reportedly feared for her life, believing McGregor might kill her during the incident.

The defense, however, continues to challenge the severity of the injuries, claiming that Ní Laimhín's story lacks consistency.

As the trial unfolds, the high court jury will be tasked with determining the facts of the case. Both sides are expected to present evidence over the next two weeks, with the outcome likely to have significant repercussions for the fighter's public image and career.

The case has garnered widespread media attention, especially due to McGregor's high profile, and the legal proceedings are expected to draw more public scrutiny as they continue.
