It feels like the Golden State Warriors would begin the 2024-25 season with just a great 3-1 record. They don't need Steph Curry with them as they showed strength in Tuesday's 124-106 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, an indication of depth and good playing skills.
However, for NBA Hall of Famer and known trash talker Charles Barkley, the season was already over for The Dubs, even if it's only four games.
Barkley is Still in Doubt About the Warriors
Despite the winning performance of the Warriors, two-time NBA legend Charles Barkley does not believe it is too early to put high hopes on the Warriors winning this season, according to Sports Illustrated.
"They're a play-in team at best. The window is shut... They had a great run. It's over, and they had a great run... This window is shut closed," Barkley said via NBA on TNT.
The franchise has won four NBA Championships since the 2015 season, but the recent playoff history of this team is dubious. The team missed the playoffs for three of the last five seasons and finished last season as the tenth seed in the Western Conference with a 46-36 record. That led to an early exit in the play-in tournament against the Sacramento Kings.
Just last week, Barkley said that Bronny James should be in G-League right now because he's not fully ready for the NBA action yet.
Curry Injury Update
Curry's loss is a big thing, as he has consistently found himself in the list of ten best players in the league. He left the match with the Los Angeles Clippers as 7:55 minutes remained in the fourth quarter and then received an MRI, where results confirmed a left peroneal strain without structural damage. He is going for the re-evaluation on Friday, which gives him hope of returning to the game faster.
Upcoming Match and Team Performance
After defeating the Pelicans, the Warriors are scheduled for the same team on Wednesday evening in San Francisco, California. According to BBC, Coach Steve Kerr admitted that there is concern given Curry's history with his ankle sprains. Optimistic that the injury might not be as bad as all feared, he remains undeterred.
As for the Clippers, Ivica Zubac was a standout performance, with a double-double against the Warriors, scoring 23 points and gathering 17 rebounds. James Harden had 23 points as well, so the competitive spirits of the Clippers, in losing, were very apparent.
The Warriors are still trying to cement their place in the league, and fans and analysts will all be watching closely as they watch Curry's recovery come through in the games in the coming days.
