Stephen Curry's phenomenal performance that helped Team USA secure another gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics left the French Ronald McDonald thinking if it should remove one of its offerings from its menu.
Chef Curry was cooking on Saturday as he led the United States men's basketball team to its fifth straight first-place finish on the world stage, posting 24 points and 5 assists. He also sank four of his eight total three-pointers in the last 2:45 seconds of the game to seal the championship.
The performance broke millions of hearts in France and forced the French McDonald's to consider pulling its "Classic Curry" sauce, which shares a name with the two-time NBA MVP, from its menu.
"For obvious reasons, we are considering removing this sauce," a post on McDonald's France Instagram account wrote, accompanied by a photo of its Classic Curry sauce.
"For a minimum of 4 years," the caption wrote.
France came within striking distance of the gold, as it narrowed down USA's lead to just three points, 82-79, with a little over three minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
But Curry's heroics were enough to keep the French in second place -- shooting a barrage of three-pointers, including a final one with 34.5 seconds that almost looked impossible to sink. That is if your name is not Steph Curry.
The win gave Curry his first Olympic gold medal, while former Golden State Warrior Kevin Durant secured his fourth gold. LeBron James, who was also named Olympic MVP, now has three after contributing 15 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds in the game.
As for France, 20-year-old Victor Wembanyama led all scorers with 26 points on 11-19 shots and 7 rebounds. Wemby is expected to lead the squad in their bid for gold in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
This Olympics is also predicted to be the last for Curry, Durant, and James as they hit 40+ years old in four years.
