Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has not gotten over his former longtime teammate Klay Thompson's departure to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.

The 34-year-old opened up about coping with Thompson wearing a different jersey next season.

"It's a classic tale of suppressing your emotions right now. I haven't allowed myself to really process it. I don't want to. I feel like I'll face it when I have to face it. Nonetheless, I'm happy for Klay," Green said during the Warriors' Summer League game against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, July 14.

Thompson signed a three-year deal worth $50 million with the Mavericks earlier this month, ending a 13-year tenure with the Bay Area squad, resulting in four NBA titles.

Green has previously admitted on his podcast that he "dropped a couple of tears" upon learning that Thompson's move was official.

Thompson had his worst statistical season since his sophomore year during the 2023-24 campaign, which could be one reason for his departure from Golden State.

However, Green is confident that the sharpshooter's fresh start in Dallas could help him return to his old lethal form.

"Happy he gets the opportunity to play basketball at a high level and get back to feeling like Klay. I think he's gonna have a really good year and he's gonna show people he's still got a lot left in the tank," the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year stated.
