The Los Angeles Lakers will need to search more extensively for assistant coaches to complement new and first-time head coach JJ Redick.

Former NBA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey has reportedly withdrawn his name from consideration for the Lakers' staff, according to ESPN league insider Dave McMenamin.

Casey contemplated the decision but ultimately decided against relocating his family, given his current role as a front-office executive for the Detroit Pistons.

The seasoned tactician won the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2018 with the Toronto Raptors. However, he was fired shortly after receiving the honor when LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers eliminated the team for the third consecutive year.

The 67-year-old last served as head coach of the Detroit Pistons from 2018 to 2023 before transitioning to a front-office position within the same organization.

Lakers' strategy for JJ Redick

The Lakers had planned to surround first-time head coach JJ Redick with veteran coaches as assistants to help him with his new job.

Other candidates include former Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks, who currently serves as an assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers.

The purple-and-gold franchise continues to search for assistants from other teams to complete the 40-year-old's staff.
