The official end of the Golden State Warriors dynasty was in mid-2024, as one-third of its big three had already been broken up.
Klay Thompson reportedly informed the Warriors office that he would leave the team and join the Dallas Mavericks on a sign-and-trade deal, although it had yet to be made official.
Fans should be thankful that they got one more season of the trio. However, Draymond Green almost made the breakup happen before the 2023-2024 season started.
The team he was supposed to join? Fierce rivals Memphis Grizzlies.
"Last year, during free agency, I called Klay, and I called Steph. Separate calls. And Steve. And I was just telling them, like, 'Yo, I'm leaving; I'm going to Memphis,'" Green said in his podcast, where he also talked about Thompson's departure.
Green's decision comes after his rift with former teammate Jordan Poole, who was later shipped to the Washington Wizards.
What stopped his departure? The front office figured something out.
"Shout to the Lacobs and Mike Dunleavy, his first free agency," Green said.

The Golden State Warriors still believe they can win it all with two-time MVP Stephen Curry at the top of his game.
However, it will be complicated right now after a disastrous free agency of 2023.
They sent out Poole and acquired Chris Paul, only to dump the latter. People only saw it as a salary dump, and the Dubs received nothing significant in return.
Thompson is going to leave the team soon, and contending for the title will be harder for them without strong support from Curry.
The team is reportedly targeting one-time All-Star Lauri Markannen of the Utah Jazz, but the competition will be stiff as he is also targeted by the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs, who can pay him better.
