A legendary player from the Charlotte Hornets has hung up his sneakers.

Point guard Kemba Walker has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball after 12 seasons in the NBA and spending the past year in Europe.

"I'm here to share that I am officially retiring from the game of basketball. This has all been a dream. When I look back, I still can't believe the things I achieved in my career," the 34-year-old said in a statement.

Walker spent the 2023-24 season in Europe with French club AS Monaco, where he won the LNB Elite league title.

The 6-foot playmaker is also known for his college basketball career with the UConn Huskies, where he led the school to the national title in 2011 and was named NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player that year.

Kemba Walker holds several Hornets franchise records

Walker was selected by the Hornets, then known as the Charlotte Bobcats, with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He spent his first eight seasons in the NBA with the Bobcats until 2019.

A four-time NBA All-Star consecutively from 2017 to 2020, Walker holds numerous Hornets franchise records, including being their all-time leading scorer, most field goals, minutes played, three-pointers, free throws, and several others.

The New York native also made the 2019 All-NBA Third Team and twice won the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 2017 and 2018.

He last played in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2022-23 season, and he also had stints with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks after departing the Hornets.
