The Chicago Sky took their first victory over the Indiana Fever this season in their third meeting, coming away with an 88-87 win on Sunday, June 23, at the Wintrust Arena.
The game's two protagonists were college rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, who crossed the bridge and brought their rivalry to the pros.
Reese delivered arguably the best game of her young WNBA career, with a monstrous performance of 25 points and 16 rebounds.
This marks the 22-year-old's eighth consecutive double-double, making her the first rookie to achieve this feat and the fourth-longest double-double streak in WNBA history.
Indiana won its first two matchups against the Sky in the ongoing campaign, both held at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. They won a 71-70 thriller on June 1 and a 91-83 victory on June 16.
The two teams will meet in the regular season on August 30 in Chicago for the fourth and final time.
Caitlin Clark breaks franchise record
Meanwhile, the first overall pick did not disappoint despite the loss, pouring in 17 points, six rebounds, and a franchise-record 13 assists for the night.
Clark became the first rookie since 2009 to achieve a double-double with points, rebounds and assists.
However, the NCAA's all-time leading scorer did not take a shot in the last two minutes. Her final attempt was a missed three-pointer with 2:19 remaining when the score was tied 84-84.
