Italian football legend Roberto Baggio, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, was the victim of a gunpoint robbery and sustained injuries while watching the UEFA Euro 2024 on Thursday, June 20.

The 57-year-old was watching the Italy vs. Spain match on television with his family at his home in the Altavilla Vicentina town in northern Italy when a group of at least five armed criminals entered his villa.

Baggio sustained head injuries after one of the robbers struck him on the head with the butt of a gun when he tried to defend his family.

The burglars locked the 1993 Ballon d'Or winner and his family in a room while they took jewelry, watches, and cash.

The incident occurred around 10 P.M. and lasted approximately 40 minutes. The rest of his family remained unharmed.

Following the thieves' departure, Baggio alerted the police, and he was subsequently taken to the hospital for stitches due to the wound on his forehead.

Baggio is tied with Alessandro Del Piero as the fourth all-time leading scorer for the Italy national team with 27 goals.
