Conflicting reports are emerging about the Los Angeles Lakers search for their next head coach, which includes former NBA player and current sports media personality JJ Redick as one of its candidates.

League insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium made a guest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss the topic. He debunked a rumor claiming that the Lakers have hired the former sharpshooter to succeed Darvin Ham.

"There's not an agreement as far as I know for JJ Redick as of right now. We're speaking right now almost 1:45 p.m. Eastern Time," Charania told the show.

This comes after team insider Anthony Irwin of Lakers Daily reported that the Lakers have finalized a deal with Redick.

Charania also provided the latest update regarding Redick's candidacy as the next head coach, indicating he is the frontrunner to take over the position.

"JJ Redick went into LA on Saturday and had in-person meetings, multiple hours with the Lakers brass. With Rob Pelinka the general manager, vice president of basketball operations, ownership as well. I'm told his meetings on Saturday were very impressive," the popular league insider said.

The 30-year-old also said that the Lakers would like to have a coach by the 2024 NBA Draft, scheduled for June 26 to 27.
