The Boston Celtics are leaving out hope that Kristaps Porzingis will return to play in their NBA Finals series against the Dallas Mavericks.

He played in Game 1 and scored 20 points in limited minutes but was injured in Game 2 and had to leave the game before it ended.

He was diagnosed with a left posterior tibialis dislocation.

The Celtics' medical team described his leg injury as "rare," and he is taking it day by day.

Backup center Xavier Tillman Sr. has a more detailed update on KP's status.

Talking to reporters after Sunday practice, the four-year veteran hinted that the Latvian might still have a long way to go before he sees action again.

"If he's in excruciating pain and can't be himself it might not be worth it," he said.

"When we go through our practices, he's doing some stuff but you can tell he's very uncomfortable."

When asked if KP is making improvements, his answer is discouraging.

"It's been pretty much the same."

Kristaps Porzingis' status for Game 5

KP was present during the Sunday shoot-around and was even seen having fun with teammates, making fun of Jayson Tatum's shooting form.

That is probably the closest Celtics fans will see him in action, as he remains questionable for Game 5.

He was on the bench during Game 4, but head coach Joe Mazzulla announced before the game that he would not play.

Al Horford will continue to be the main center in his place, while Tillman Sr. will be the backup.

Celtics are up 3-1 against the Mavericks.
