The Boston Celtics could've gone for the NBA title total record on Friday, but instead, they got one of the most dishonorable records in the league's history.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla and his squad, coming to the game for the title clincher, lost to the Dallas Mavericks by 38 points in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the third-largest deficit in NBA Finals history.
NBA legend and commentator Charles Barkley did not consider the blow-out loss as something that the Celts should bow their head for. Instead, what he finds embarrassing is the way they played and approached the hungry Mavs.
"We said that the Celtics come out just jacking up jumpers, going through the motion, then Dallas has a chance," he said post-game through the NBATV.
"I'm not going to give diss to the Mavs. Congratulations! Good win. That was embarrassing by the Celtics. They actually thought the Mavs were gonna quit. They came out non-chalant, lackadaisical."
Barkley went on and made harsh comments about the way the Celtics just kept on shooting threes.
"That was so unprofessional the way they played tonight."
Mazzulla said they felt good the night before
Barkley is calling out the Celts' lack of urgency, and he might be right.
Mazzulla said post-game that his team felt good coming into the game in Dallas.
"I thought we had a great process. I thought we had a great shootaround. Thought we had a great film session yesterday. I thought the guys came out with the right intentions," he said post-game.
However, he acknowledged that their opponents did the right thing and outplayed them.
The series continue at TD Garden on Monday for Game 5.
