The Celtics are calling the injury "rare" and stated that Porzinigs has consulted several specialists on his condition.
The injury occurred in the final minutes of the third quarter of Game 2, forcing the big man to not return.
A reporter asked Joe Mazzulla how likely it is that Porzingis will play in Game 3.
"I have no idea," Mazzulla said.
Bad News in Boston
The injury blow couldn't have come at the worst time for the Celtics.
Boston currently holds a 2-0 lead against the Dallas Mavericks, who will host Game 3 at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night.
Porzingis, who just worked his way back from a calf injury, missed the majority of the Celtics' playoff run, having returned in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. There, he erupted for 20 points and three blocks to help lift his Celtics past the Mavericks in the opening Finals game.
Luckily, the injury is unrelated to his calf; the injury that kept him out for 38 games.
Porzingis said after Saturday's game that he is expecting to play in Game 3 at Dallas.
But now, that is up in the air.
Dallas will be looking to even the series up now returning home against Boston. Behind Luka Doncic, who is coming off a monster Game 2 performance, anything is possible.
