The young ones are taking over in professional tennis as Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek ruled their respective categories in the French Open 2024.

Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam in his young career after defeating Alexander Zverev in a thrilling five-set match that lasted four hours.

He also broke several records while at it.

Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, showed that the Roland Garros is hers to rule. She has now won it four times out of the last five.

The pair have been receiving attention since the conclusion of the French Open over the weekend.

However, not everyone is about the greatness these two are establishing.

American legend John McEnroe was under fire on Monday for his comments on Swiatek, which many fans thought were sexist.

The former pro turned commentator was watching the finals match between Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini, but the discussion deviated from tennis when his co-host mentioned that the eventual French Open winner turned down a makeup brand's offer to be their endorser.

McEnroe said, "You think if they offer her enough, Lancome, maybe she would consider throwing on a little makeup for the right price?"

Many viewers caught the comment, and they are now attacking McEnroe, who has a history of unsavory comments toward female tennis professionals.

They thought the American should rave that she cruised to the title with a dominant performance in Paris.

To be fair, McEnroe earlier made more positive comments about the Polish star. He predicted that Swiatek could win more French Opens as she had already mastered the clay court.

McEnroe has yet to comment on the Swiatek issue.

McEnroe hugely praised Alcaraz

According to some social media users, McEnroe's comments about Swiatek were a far cry from his comments about Alcaraz.

The 21-year-old Spanish star set records in his third Grand Slam win, and McEnroe believes he is already better than the top three Grand Slam winners in Men's Singles at his age.

"For me Alcaraz is better than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at 21 years old. We are talking about a unique tennis player and we will certainly need him for a long time in this sport," he said.

"You have to love Carlos for everything he brings to the court. The most what's important is the smile that Carlos brings to the pitch. That joy of competing that is difficult to feel, it's difficult to always have a smile when you're stressed."

Among the records set by Alcaraz are:

1. Youngest to win a Grand Slam in three surfaces.

2. Joined six other players to win all their first three majors in the Open Era.

3. Becoming the second player to win Ronald Garros before turning 22 to join fellow Spanish Rafael Nadal.

4. Fastest to win a title in all three surfaces as he needed just 13 games. This broke the record once set by Nadal and Jimmy Connors, who needed 20 games.
